Antidote Board of Directors welcomes Sabina Chatterjee, Organizational Coordinator

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

Antidote Board of Directors welcomes Sabina Chatterjee, Organizational Coordinator!

We are pleased to introduce antidote’s newest staff member, Sabina Chatterjee, social justice activist, and community development organizer.

Sabina has a strong commitment to building communities that are compassionate and caring and believes that supporting and nurturing multiracial and Indigenous girls and women is a key aspect of continuing to create healthy, resilient communities.  She brings extensive skills, experience, and knowledge from her role as Executive Director of a very busy youth shelter and drop-in centre.  Her training and experience in the provision of anti-oppression workshops is extensive, including organizational capacity building and cross- and inter-cultural conflict resolution. Sabina has developed policies, procedures and organizational frameworks in which anti-oppressive theories were successfully enacted.

As a woman of mixed race Sabina’s own navigation of discrimination and inequity based on gender, orientation, race, and (dis)ability has informed her commitment to creating new ways of mobilizing change that honours life stories and lived experiences. Sabina believes that this is even more urgent and crucial for Indigenous and multicultural/racialized women and girls, as our voices and experiences have so often been rendered invisible.

Sabina has quickly taken up duties and responsibilities for the fulfillment of our SWC Blueprint Project “Engaging Youth in Preventing Violence Against Girls and Women”.  All who have met her so far are excited and engaged for our work ahead.

Please join antidote for upcoming events and workshops so that you can meet and personally welcome Sabina.

Join us at Embracing Shades of Action on May 5th!

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Embracing Shades of Action is a one-day event on May 5, 2012, for Indigenous Girls and Girls of Colour* between the ages of 13-17. The day has been created and designed as a response to the lack of space there is for the lived experiences and networking of/between Indigenous Girls and Girls of Colour in Victoria. In planning this day we acknowledge that race and place has shaped every individual differently and want to honor the diversity within Indigenous Girls and Girls of Colour lives. We come together with an incredible advisory committee that includes an intergenerational combination of both Indigenous Women and Women of Color. Through the advisory committee visioning process, as well as a number of focus groups with Indigenous Girls and Girls of Colour from local communities, we formed a collective vision of what this day could look like.

The day will provide an opportunity for the participants to learn new skills and leadership tools. It will aim to inspire and support dialogue-surrounding issues that matter to the youth participants. It will also provide the space and place for youth to network with other youth and hear the experiences of other young Indigenous Women and young Women of Colour who are actively involved in taking action within their communities.

Don’t forget to register online for the event! Click this link to sign up!

Thanks for making unlabel 2010 a success

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

The 4th unlabel fashion happened on Sunday March 21st. We had a great time de-constructing fashion, discussing important issues that face us and of course, re-creating clothing!

This year we had several interactive workshops which included: brooch making, sewing, an interactive media station, and an informative workshop in which we deconstructed popular images found in print media. And we finished with a speak out runway, in which everyone had the opportunity to share what they re-created and anything they learned that day before strutting down the runway. What an empowering way to end a fantastic day with our antidote family!

Photos to follow soon!

A special thanks to our sponsors:
