Multiracial Families Project

Multiracial adults and couples continue to face unique forms of racism and discrimination and have special needs not currently recognized or supported in communities across Canada.

According to Statistics Canada, there were 289,420 mixed race couples, married and common law, in 2006.

And yet multiracial adults and couples continue to face unique forms of racism and discrimination and have special needs not recognized or supported in communities across Canada.

Since 2003, Antidote has co-organized six annual Multiracial Family Day celebrations.  The celebrations are designed so that multiracial individuals, couples and families have an opportunity to get together, share knowledge, network and celebrate diversity within their communities. Over the years it has attracted over 600 individuals, couples and families, which includes new immigrants, refugees, trans-racial adoptees and Aboriginal/Indigenous populations living in and coming from multiracial backgrounds.
